KING & HIVE David Beckham netted private meeting with King Charles at Highgrove after pair bond over shared hobby

The private meeting came days after Charles was too busy to see son Harry during his brief London trip.

Ex-England captain Becks, 49, surprised the King, 75, last year with a jar of his homemade honey — before they chatted about their passion for beekeeping.

Nature-lover Charles was also impressed by Beckham’s new love of the countryside.

A source yesterday said: “The King and David Beckham have really bonded over their similar interests.”

Charles invited Becks to Highgrove to learn more about The King’s Foundation, a charity he set up in 1986.

Tours of the grounds of the estate in Gloucestershire help to fund workshops and courses in traditional skills and crafts.

A new education centre has also been built which provides training in traditional industries such as woodcarving, stonemasonry and textiles.

The King met former Man United and Real Madrid star Beckham last May during a British fashion awards event at an art gallery in central London. The homemade honey gift seemed to delight Charles, who has beehives at his royal estates.

He thanked Beckham and said: “We shall have to do a swap.”Beckham turned to beekeeping during the Covid lockdowns and built a £500 hive at his Cotswolds home.

His meeting with Charles will make uncomfortable reading for Prince Harry.

Charles’s packed diary meant he had been too busy to meet Harry last week during his three days in London.

  • QUEEN Camilla hailed hospital staff for their “wonderful work” during a visit to the Royal London Hospital to mark today’s International Nurses Day.
