Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Taking Weight-Loss Drug After Dropping All Those Pounds

Kelly Clarkson opened up about taking an unnamed weight-loss drug after she dropped nearly 40 pounds, something she previously credited to walking and a diet change.

During “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the host was talking with guest Whoopi Goldberg and revealed that she had been prescribed a drug by her doctor to help her lose weight after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, without revealing what she had been prescribed.

“Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic,” Clarkson said. “It’s not. It’s something else. But it’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right.”

Clarkson said her doctor “chased” her for “like two years” urging her to get on medication, because her “blood work got so bad,” admitting she was unaware how much she had gained.

“I watched that show and I was like, ‘She is any second now (going to) die,'” Clarkson said, reflectingon how she looked in 2022, admitting, despite her doctor’s suggestion, she was afraid to try the medication.

In January, the “American Idol” alumna was praised on her new fit and told People magazine moving her talk show out of Los Angeles to New York and walking everywhere was helping make a difference.

“We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We’ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We’ll go make slime and we go to the museum,”  Clarkson said of her new exercise regimen with her kids, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander.

“Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she added. “And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down. I eat a healthy mix.”

“I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn’t,” Clarkson continued. “And 90 percent of the time, I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world! But I still splurge. The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical.”

In 2022, Clarkson’s divorce from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock became official after almost seven years of marriage. The singer previously talked about how hard the divorce was on their kids.

“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling up in the bed: ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?'” Clarkson said. “A lot of times they’ll be like: ‘You know, I’m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.'”

‘They’re really honest about it,” she added. “I’m from a divorced family as well. It sucks.”
