Bernie Sanders Rejects A ‘Permanent Ceasefire’ Between Israel And Hamas

Democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said during an interview over the weekend that Israel couldn’t have a “permanent ceasefire” with Hamas because Hamas is a genocidal terrorist group that is committed to “a permanent war” against Israel.

Sanders made the remarks when asked by CBS News host Margaret Brennan during a Sunday interview on “Face The Nation” about far-Left members of the House of Representatives who are pushing for a permanent ceasefire.

“So progressives like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Rashida Tlaib have been clear and calling for a ceasefire,” Brennan said. “You’ve taken some flack because you have not. The United States government is opposing a ceasefire as well, and they’re isolated at the (United Nations) on that point.”

“Why is it you oppose a ceasefire?” she asked.

Sanders responded by saying that he supports “a humanitarian pause” that “would have, by the way, called for the release of all of the hostages held by Hamas” in exchange for allowing the “U.N. and other agencies to begin to supply the enormous amount of humanitarian aid that the Palestinians need.”

“In terms of a permanent ceasefire, I don’t know how you could have a permanent ceasefire with Hamas who had said before October 7, and after October 7, that they want to destroy Israel,” he said. “They want a permanent war. I don’t know how you have a permanent ceasefire with an attitude like that.”

“I think Israel has the right to defend itself and go after Hamas,” he added.
