Mudguard Car Contest In Paris, 1912
In 1912, the Police Prefecture of Paris organized a mudguard car contest, attracting many inventors. The effectiveness of their mudguard inventions is measured by rolling their cars on the streets in a rainy day with blank panels. The results for each car were then recorded.
Four types of anti-splash devices seem to be the most commonly used: metal guards, brushes, chains and round metal, leather and rubber discs mounted to the outside of a tire.
