Two teenagers killed instantly and two injured as car slams into tree: 18-year-old driver and passenger dead as two friends fight for life after 5.20am crash

 Two teenagers were killed instantly and two more are fighting for their lives after a car slammed into a tree in Coventry in the early hours of this morning. 

The driver of the car and a passenger, both 18 years old, were found in a critical condition and declared dead at the scene.Two more 18-year-olds, also believed to be have been passengers in the car, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

Police were called to the scene on Burns Road at 5:30am. 

Pictures of the scene showed the wreckage of a blue car wrapped around a tree, wedged between the tree and a wall with a green metal fence.

The wall appeared to have collapsed at the rear of the car.

Police were shown at the scene taking photographs of the crashed car and cordoning off the road where it occurred.

The road near the junction with Longfellow Road and Walsgrave Road was closed for most of the morning, police said.

West Midland Police said it has launched an investigation into the crash.

'We're working hard to find out how the collision happened,' Detective Sargent Paul Hughes from Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, before urging anyone with information to come forward.

'If you were in the area at the time and either saw what happened or have dashcam footage, please get in touch.'
