‘It was like watching King Kong’: Brutal moment monkey batters seagull to death after snatching it out of the sky in front of shocked family at Chester Zoo

This is the gruesome moment a monkey transformed into 'King Kong' as it scaled a 20ft-tall pole and snatched a passing seagull out of the sky - before savagely smashing it to death and eating it.

The shocking incident took place at Chester Zoo, Cheshire, on Saturday, February 26, when visitors witnessed the capuchin monkey grabbing the large bird as it flew past.

Bec Adamson, 32, was enjoying a 'lovely day out' at the zoo with her son and former partner when she saw the scene unfold and began filming.

The video captured the fearsome monkey holding its prey by the head and repeatedly slamming it against the side of a wooden pole in its enclosure.

The capuchin monkey even appeared to 'lick blood off its fingers' as the bird became limp following the fatal battering.

Ms Adamson said the monkey's aggression and position reminded her of the iconic King Kong scene where the giant primate hangs from the Empire State Building and rips planes from the sky to destroy them.

The mother-of-one, from Northwich, Cheshire, and her former partner Jamie Stockall, 35, described how the zoo animal then dropped the seagull and quickly climbed down to grab the 'insides' from the carcass and take it away to eat.

Ms Adamson said her son Dominik Minshull, five, was fascinated because it resembled the David Attenborough nature clips he loves so much.

The hospitality worker posted her startling video to TikTok the following day, March 6, where it has been viewed more than 2million times.

Miss Adamson said: 'It was like watching the real King Kong. He was really slamming it against the pole and pulling at its feathers. It was just really aggressive and mad.

'We'd just been to see the rhinos, so we were walking across, then I saw all these seagulls circling and then this monkey caught one as it was flying past. It was really clever.

'I told Jamie and Dominik looked too, so I started filming... I couldn't believe I was catching it on video.

'Other people started watching too and suddenly there were about 100 people watching. It was really violent, but it's natural. It's what happens in nature.

'Dominik asked if David Attenborough was watching as well because we watch this sort of thing at home.

'He just thought it was amazing because he thought they were fighting.'

According to Miss Adamson, there were a lot of seagulls flying over the top of the pole but the monkey picked just one 'poor thing'.

She added: 'You can't help but keep watching.'

Since sharing the footage, Miss Adamson has been baffled at how widely it was shared.

Her TikTok post, with the tongue-in-cheek caption 'lovely family day', has been liked 40,000 times and has attracted more than 1,000 comments.

Anthony Brooks posted: 'King Kong beats up a giant bird.'

Robert Gill agreed and joked: 'What people don't know is that this is on set at the next King Kong movie. Kong v Gullzilla.'

Martin Brown stated: 'Brutal, yet so satisfying.'

Dwight Shrute added: 'Finger-licking good.'

A Chester Zoo spokesman said: 'The buffy-headed capuchin seen in the video is a wild animal with all of its hunting instincts and skills.'
