Manchester United SUSPEND star player Mason Greenwood, 20, while police investigate claims he assaulted model girlfriend after shocking video is posted to her Instagram showing her with a bloodied face and bruised body

Manchester United has suspended Mason Greenwood as police probe his model girlfriend's claims he assaulted her.

The club said the star striker will not play or train with the team while the investigation into a series of Instagram posts by Harriet Robson continues.

It comes after her father said she was 'completely devastated' after sharing gory images showing cuts and bruises she said the England striker, 20, caused.

He said he was also gutted because the Manchester United star 'has been part of our family for two or three years'.

Two officers were spotted at the family home in Stockport, Greater Manchester, today and took her statement.

This morning Ms Robson, 20, posted videos on Instagram of a huge cut on her lip as well as bruises across her legs and hip.

Manchester United said it was aware of the allegations, police said they are looking into it while Greenwood's sponsor Nike said the company was 'deeply concerned'.

Athletes such as sprinter Adam Gemili and politicians including Caroline Nokes slammed the footballer and wished Ms Robson well.

But they reunited eight months later in November that year and shared videos of them larking around at home.

Greenwood has had a series of run ins with his club team following his 'general tardiness'.

In September 2020, Greenwood was sent home in disgrace by England after he and Phil Foden broke Covid protocols by inviting two women back to the hotel in Iceland.

Both issued public apologies, with Greenwood promising to learn from his 'huge mistake.'

Foden was invited back into the England team, scoring twice against Iceland this week, but Greenwood was not immediately.

MailOnline also revealed how Greenwood got into further trouble for holding rowdy house parties throughout the coronavirus lockdown at a secret address.

The young striker rented the three-storey home through Airbnb 'five or six times' during the pandemic where neighbours complained they were kept awake.

Greenwood and Harriet are from Wisbey, near Bradford and have known each other since their school days at Ashton on Mersey School in Greater Manchester.

The striker was still at the school when he became Manchester United's youngest ever player in the Champions League, making his debut against PSG aged 17.Dubbed United's 'new wonder kid' he broke into the first team squad in 2020, scoring a ten goals before football stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Domestic abuse charities, athletes and politicians rushed to wish Ms Robson well and question Greenwood's actions.

Charity Women's Aid said: 'Distressing posts being circulated on social media today #MasonGreenwood.

'It is essential that all employers, including those in football, take domestic abuse very seriously and we hope Man Utd do in this case.'

The statement added: 'Solidarity with Harriet Robson. #FootballUnitedAgainstDomesticViolence.'

British sprinter Gemili said on Twitter: 'It's happening everyday to thousands of men and women. We all need to raise awareness to help combat domestic violence.'

Tory MP Ms Nokes put: 'Investigation into allegations about Mason Greenwood is for @gmpolice not @ManUtd - and Harriet Robson needs support for her bravery in speaking out.'

Jess Phillips MP said: 'I had never heard of Mason Greenwood before. I hope he faces the full force of the law, unlike so many people accused.'

She added: 'Until the case is settled it would be unfathomable that he be allowed to play.'
