I took my daughter to salon for highlights but got thrown out – they’ve RUINED her hair but people say I’m in the wrong

IT'S pretty much a rite of passage for teenage girls to dye their hair a questionable colour - with or without their parents' permission.

But if she was going to let her daughter highlight her hair, TikTok user Dr Steph thought she might as well let her get it done properly at a salon.

Earlier this month, the social media star - who boasts 70,000 followers - took her daughter to Four One Five hairdressers near their home in Auckland.

In a viral video that racked up over 500k views, the mum started by showing a photo of what her daughter had asked for in comparison to how she left the salon.

Blasting the "worst hairdresser ever", Dr Steph explained how her teenager had been looking forward to the appointment for the whole of lockdown.

But halfway through the appointment, the hairdresser claims to have found nits in the teen's hair and said she had to stop there and then.

"And basically said to her. 'put your hair up you are leaving the salon now'.""I think the hairdresser was in their right to stop if they had other clients in," one replied. "Yes agreed, it’s not ideal but not the hairdressers fault she had nits."

And while another accused the mum of "dragging them through the mud", a third wrote: "Why would you ruin a business like this? Over hair which they offered to fix."

But speaking from experience, a fourth said: "I am a hairdresser and we were always taught if you notice lice half way through you just finish - you can't let someone walk out like that."

After the video went viral, the hairdresser shared her side of the story in a now-deleted video.

She said: "I didn't think it was a big deal, we just wanted her to go home and get treated and said we would finish it off tomorrow, but someone started making it a big deal."

Arguing that she didn't want to put other clients at risk by completing the appointment, the hairdresser added: "I still don't think we did anything wrong."Our journalists strive for accuracy but on occasion we make mistakes.
