 A member of England's Barmy Army has popped the question to his Australian girlfriend in front of a packed crowd at the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.

Rob proposed to his cricket tragic lover Nat during the morning session on day three of the Test at the Gabba, with television cameras capturing the unforgettable moment.

'I'm going to keep this short and sweet,' Rob explains to a surprised Nat.

'It's been four years. Will you marry me?' 

Nat nods before the couple seal the deal with a kiss as the English fans around them erupt into cheers.

'It's all happening at the Gabba on day three, have a look at this,'  Channel Seven commentator James Brayshaw said. 

'Rob's in the Barmy Army. Nat is of course an Aussie. That is brilliant.'

Cricket viewers weighed in on the occasion.

'This is bloody brilliant,' one wrote.

Another quipped: 'But she loves beer more though.'

A female cricket fan added: 'This is how I want to be proposed to.'

England have returned to the crease for their second innings, trailing by 287.
