Miss Oakley bought 1,000 lights to go on the tree, but tried to put them on herself four times to no avail.

Frustrated, she called her partner John’s parents Brian, 72, and Denise, 70, who she calls her ‘in-laws’, to help her put up the lights.

She was keen to get them ready for her daughter Luella's birthday the next day.

The video shows Miss Oakley say 'nearly there' as unofficial 'in-law' Denise moves around the tree putting the lights in position.

Brian can be seen just behind her spinning with the full set of lights wrapped around his waist as Miss Oakley giggles away in the background.

Miss Oakley told MailOnline, 'In hindsight, I should have ordered less and I was throwing a bit of a tantrum.

'It was just typical of Brian to have the idea of wrapping the lights around himself.

'He is a big kid, but it worked an absolute treat and made me laugh. I initially only sent the video to my partner for him to show the kids.

'I run a small business, so decided to share the video on my Instagram account and make a TikTok for it.'

The video has since gone viral and been viewed more than 1.6million times on TikTok with over 220,000 likes.

One user commented: 'My favourite thing about elderly couples is that she's actually figured out a way to let him help and knows he'll do anything she asks.'

Another said: 'Not his first Christmas light waltz!'

Miss Oakley said: 'Last week, I was putting up our new artificial 7ft Christmas Tree, and I'd bought 1000 lights to go on it.

'I tried four times to put them on by myself, and I just kept getting in a right tangle.

'I tried again the next morning, but the same kept happening, and I felt like crying as I really wanted the tree up in time for my daughter's birthday the following day.

'So I phoned my in-laws to see if they could help me as they will always help us if they can.

'All three of us held the lights and went around it to decorate it, but the lights kept getting tangled still so my father-in-law came up with the idea to wrap them around himself!'
