Driving home for Christmas? Car covered with fairy lights cheers up drivers on motorway near Dublin

An Irish motorist was filmed bringing festive joy to fellow drivers near Dublin after covering their SUV in white Christmas lights.

The dark-coloured SUV was spotted covered in hundreds of bright white lights as it made its way along the M1 motorway, approaching the junction of Balbriggan on the Dublin-Meath border.

Paul McMurray was heading northbound on the motorway when he filmed the festive vehicle and hooted at the driver as he passed. He posted the footage online after filming it on November 28. He said: 'No idea who was driving but I hope they have a good Christmas if they see this.'

The dashcam footage shows Mr McMurray's car coming up behind the glowing vehicle.

As it draws up along aside a section of the string of lights can be seen flapping in the wind.

MailOnline has approached the Road Safety Authority of Ireland for a comment. A Range Rover covered in lights at a service station in Raynes Park, London, in December 2019

The brightly decorated SUV is not the first to catch the attention of other drivers at Christmas.

In December 2019, a similarly lit-up Land Rover was spotted at a service station in Raynes Park, London.

After filling up, the black Land Rover - which even sported LED lights along its aerial - pulled out of the service station and joined the A3 to London.
