The deer was filmed heading towards the edge of the cascading water in Tahquamenon Falls State Park, upstate Michigan

In the video, tourists watched on as the young animal frolicked in the river's waters.

But the clip then shows the deer gallop downstream, seemingly unaware of the huge impending drop up ahead.

Tourists on a nearby viewing platform can be heard shouting 'no!' and 'what is he doing?' as he reached the edge, before plunging over the side.

However after falling off the edge minutes later the animal was seen floating in the lower part of the river before reaching a bank and scrambling out.

'A big question I had is what was it running from and did it end up ok and survive?'

One bystander could be heard near the end of the video saying: 'I cannot believe that.'

Tahquamenon's Upper Falls is one the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, measuring 200 feet across.
