    Nikki O'Donoghue whipped Emma Clay after spinning her leash like a lasso while their pets watched on in Cricketers Park, Liverpool.

    Mrs O'Donoghue admitted she lost her temper but claimed Miss Clay had earlier yelled 'verbal abuse' at her.

    Miss Clay, 36, was walking her seven pugs before spotting Mrs O'Donoghue in a furious argument with another man.

    She went over to try to calm the row but was instead set upon herself and allegedly left with a black eye.

    Diamond Doggy Care owner Mrs O'Donoghue, who knew Miss Clay from seeing each other on dog walks, claimed she had taken the man's side.

    The squabble is said to have escalated before Miss Clay started recording her rival on her mobile - with a witness also filming them.

    The two shocking videos start as the attacker stood by her van before going into the park to argue with Miss Clay.

    She tries to snatch her victim's phone out of her hands but resorts to spinning her dog lead in a lasso manner.

    Mrs O'Donoghue suddenly hurls one end towards Miss Clay and catches her in the face - before fleeing in her van.

    She added that it had left her too scared to leave the house in case she sees her attacker.

    She said she thinks of her pugs - Buddy, Eric, Rico, Macy, Button, Beau and Coco - as her 'babies' after cancer left her unable to have children.

    Miss Clay claimed Mrs O'Donoghue was rowing with the man because his dog allegedly growled at one of the pack she was walking.

    But she said he had been in a fenced-off area meant for animals which are not supposed to be close to others.

    She said she pointed this out to Mrs O'Donoghue and suggested she should steer clear - which is said to have riled up the professional dog walker.

    The man, who has not been named, said Miss Clay had tried to help 'defuse' the argument.

    Mrs O'Donoghue accepted she had lashed out, saying she lost her temper after being 'verbally abused'.

    She said that she will attend a voluntary police interview accompanied by her solicitor.

    Merseyside Police said officers were probing the report of an assault and had approached Mrs O'Donoghue for a chat.

    A spokesman said: 'It was reported that, following a verbal altercation in Cricketers Park, near Sandown Lane, a woman was hit in the face with a dog lead.

    'The female suspect then made off in a white Renault van. The victim suffered minor injuries to her face and was left shaken by the incident.

    'Patrols attended the scene and, following enquires, a woman is due to voluntarily attend at a police station for interview by officers.'
