New London Resort theme park reveals dinosaur land – with rollercoaster, zip wires & dig zones at ‘UK Disneyland’

 THE NEW London Resort theme park has announced the first land which will open in 2024, dedicated to dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures.

Base Camp will be one of the six lands at the Kent theme park, with a range of rides, rollercoasters and exciting features.

Found in the north west corner of the resort, the land’s plans include two rollercoasters, one of which will be based on the Quetzalcoatlus, one of the largest known winged reptiles.

Set over 1km of track, it aims to be one of the fastest rollercoasters in Europe reaching speeds in excess of 70mph.

The second rollercoaster will be a family ride, with a much more relaxed experience, while a dark ride will use technology to show guests how to interact dinosaurs while conducting a science mission.

Also at the land will be a 1,500 person live stage show experience and an "active dig site" when guests can try out palaeontology by digging for dinosaur fossils, as well as climbing walls and zip lines.

Dining experiences will include two restaurants, one of which will be based on the "edge of an underwater cliff" with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Diners will be able to see the dinosaurs up-close with prehistoric sea creatures behind the glass, such as the Ichthyosaurs.

“Base Camp’s design is based on a philosophy of what an actual, modern day, prehistorical nature reserve might look like,” said PY Gerbeau, CEO of London Resort.

“There will be thrills, spills and high energy rides combined with opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the most amazing creatures ever to walk the earth.

"However, unlike popular films that depict dinosaurs as villains, things don’t always go terribly wrong here. We are building a land of preservation and celebration of dinosaurs.”

London Resort will be the first development in Europe to be built from scratch since Disneyland Paris in 1992, leading to it being cited as the "UK Disneyland".

It will eventually be a two park resort, with the first gate opening in 2024 and the second expected in 2029.

"We are building a unique, global destination and the storytelling, thrilling adventures, and environmental messaging found inside Base Camp help to reinforce that effort."The theme park will have six-themed lands including:

• The Studios -  a modern-day warehouse district with blockbuster action including high-octane car chases and espionage.
• The Woods - a fairytale land along with attractions based on mythical creatures
• The Kingdom - a realm of swords, sorcery and dragons based on legends from King Arthur's England.
• The Jungle - a land featuring ancient ruins of the long-lost Mesoamerican civilisation
• The Starport - a 23rd century 'landing zone' dedicated to alien encounters and science-fiction rides.

When complete, it will be three times larger than any other park in the UK - spanned across 535 acres, the equivalent of 136 Wembley Stadiums.

We've also revealed what guests can expect from the theme park's hotel and shopping district, which will be part of the first opening.
