Matt Walsh And Tucker Carlson Go Viral, Compare Masks To Security Blankets

The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show on Monday evening, and the conversation between the two has since gone viral. During the primetime show, the two discussed their positions on various mask mandates across the country and the societal attitude regarding the use of masks, specifically wearing them outside and children wearing masks.

“It does seem like we’ve internalized — by we, I don’t mean Republicans or conservatives, I just mean normal people who remember what the country was like 18 months ago — have internalized the framework that other people have written for us,” said Carlson“I was in Austin a few days ago and I’m walking outside without a mask on and people are staring at me like I’m the crazy one for not having a mask on,” Walsh responded. “Meanwhile if you’re walking outside with a mask on, I should be looking at you, and I do look at you like I would look at a grown man hugging a teddy bear and having a pacifier in his mouth while he’s walking down the street.”

“This is your security blanket,” Walsh continued. “There’s no reason for you to have it on. You’re just afraid. You’re afraid of fresh air. That’s what’s happening. People are afraid to breathe air, and we’re making it so that kids are afraid of air too, and that’s insane to me.”

“I agree with you completely,” Carlson added.

According to current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the health agency “recommends that people wear masks in public settings, at events and gatherings, and anywhere they will be around other people.”

“Effective February 2, 2021, masks are required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations,” the CDC states.

The CDC also instructs parents not to put masks on children younger than 2 years old.

“Masks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with people who live in your household,” reads further guidance from the CDC. “However, some areas may have mask mandates while out in public, so please check the rules in your local area (such as in your city, county, or state). Additionally, check whether any federal mask mandates apply to where you will be going.”

On Tuesday, CBS News reported that CDC is “expected to announce updated guidelines for fully vaccinated Americans as early as Tuesday, according to several administration officials.”

“A federal official tells CBS News that the Biden administration will release new ‘interim public health recommendations’ that will provide guidelines for activities that vaccinated people may resume, including recommendations related to health care settings and whether to wear masks outdoors,” CBS News noted, adding that the new rules’ language was still being finalized.
