  • Eagle spreads its wings toward fox in an aggressive move of defence This is the moment a wily fox got the better of a massive golden eagle after running the bird of prey ragged.

Wildlife photographer Guillermo Arteaga, 36, captured the unique interaction on a hillside in Avila, Spain.

Defending its food, the eagle aggressively displays its 6ft wingspan as it tries to scare off the fox.

But the bird's four-legged foe is not easily intimidated and proceeds to circle the eagle. The fox tries to find another way he can get to the meat, but the eagle is hot on his tail.

It flies after the fox, raising his talons and trying to claw at the animal.

The fox scarpers in another direction but the eagle follows, becoming increasingly aggressive and keeping its talons out.

When the fox runs off again the eagle flies after him, chasing him into the distance.

However, when the eagle triumphantly returns to the branch and the dead animal, the fox reappears and manages to scare the eagle away.

Mr Arteaga originally recorded the footage in April 2020 but it has recently re-emerged online and gone viral.
