Unhappy feet! Penguin keeper slips on ice and takes a dip in freezing pool - sending the birds into a ppp-panic

  • A bird keeper at Cotswold Wildlife Park took an icy tumble into the penguin pool
  • Foot slipped on edge of the pool in the bird's enclosure and fell in up to his waist
  • Comes days after advice from NHS trusts to 'walk like penguin' on snow and ice A zookeeper probably wished he had taken NHS advice to walk like a penguin when he took a tumble on ice and landed in a freezing animal pool.

A hilarious clip shared by Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, in Burford, showed one of their bird keepers slipping off the edge of the penguin pool which was surrounded by a blanket of snow and ice and falling in up to his waist.

Perhaps ironically, it comes just a couple of days after NHS trusts issued a rather unusual edict urging people to 'walk like a penguin' to avoid falling on pavements covered in snow and ice.

The penguins were sent into a frenzy after his shock arrival into their pool.  A bird keeper at Cotswold Wildlife Park in Burford took a tumble on the ice inside a penguin enclosure and ended up waist deep in the animal pool

The bird keeper can be seen hand feeding Dale, the park's oldest penguin who was born in 1995, from a bucket before he walks out of shot, returning with a broom.

Next the CCTV from inside the penguin enclosure shows him sweeping away snow from around the side of the pool. Suddenly, his left foot slips off the side and he falls waist-deep into the freezing water, soaking his clothes

He quickly clambers out of the water and kneels on the floor for a second as he recovers from the shock.

The penguins become startled, darting through the water in every direction before many of them quickly run out of the water.

Speaking about his icy fall, the bird keeper said: 'Other than my pride being dented, I'm all good.'

Cotswold Wildlife Park shared the clip on social media with the caption: 'Experts believe that to avoid slipping on ice, you should walk like a penguin.

'That didn't help one of our bird keepers who took an unplanned dip in the cold penguin pool recently.

'Please note: No penguins were harmed in the making of this video, although a keeper's pride was slightly damaged!'

The NHS advises people should 'walk like a penguin' on ice and snow as it can help prevent injuries and trips to the hospital.

Some people have praised the advice while others have mocked it, questioning how humans survived before it.

The park has 26 Humboldt Penguins which can be watched live via webcams.
