The woman, 23, said the family vehicle was ambushed in Dudley, West Midlands, on Wednesday morning after her partner told a van driver to slow down.

Shocking footage shows a man thrashing his weapon through the windscreen and onto the car bonnet at around 9.10am in an attack which left the young child in tears.

The woman, whose partner was driving, claimed police failed to attend the scene despite four 999 calls from other parents and the school. A machete-wielding thug attacks a mother's car while she was dropping her four-year-old daughter at school in Dudley, west Midlands, today

The healthcare worker, who did not want to be named, said her daughter was crying in the back of the car after the attack.

She said: 'It's really traumatising. There were children walking around. It was outside the school gates.

'We are still in shock. They sped around the corner and nearly clipped us. Both vehicles had to come to an emergency stop because of how he swung around the corner.

'He then pulled his window down and my partner just said "Brother, there's children running around, crossing the street - slow down next time".

'And then it was pure aggro, making threats trying to reach in to grab my partner.

'While he's doing that I can see the passenger get out. I thought he was up to no good and pulled my phone out to start recording him.

'You can see the machete in his hand. The video is less than 10 seconds long - that's how quickly it escalated.

'My daughter was also in the back crying. She's absolutely traumatised. It's disgusting.

'She keeps crying and asking her teachers: "Is mummy ok? The bad man smashed the window".'

The mum said her partner, who was driving, had initially asked the driver of a van to slow down when he sped around a sharp corner.

Seconds later a passenger from the van carried out the unprovoked attack that was captured on camera.

The culprits fled the scene, but the woman did manage to note down the number plate of the grey-coloured Mercedes van.

However, she claims she didn't hear anything from the police after reporting the incident and was merely given a police log number.

She claims she called officers via the non-emergency number 101 to find out what was happening only to be told an officer would be in touch on Thursday.

She said: 'This isn't good enough. This is a dangerous man who has pulled out a weapon. Police need to act now.

'A man with a machete has gone free. It's crazy.'

The woman said her partner was later pulled over by police officers due to the smashed window.

He explained what had happened to officers, who she said were 'gobsmacked' and told him to get it fixed.

The mother later said that an inspector had been in touch, following media inquiries, and an officer was due to take a statement on Wednesday night.

West Midlands Police have been approached for comment.
