A lingerie model is believed to have set off the row between football manager Ryan Giggs and his girlfriend which led to his arrest.

However, it is not clear whether anything more has happened between Giggs and Charles, according to The Sun

The former Manchester United star, is said to have known 33-year-old Charles - a former air hostess who now works for a finance company - for several years.

A row between Wales manager Giggs and his partner Kate Greville, 36 - who works in PR - reportedly broke out last Sunday.

Speaking to The Sun, a source claimed: 'Kate was contacted by a woman who claimed to be having a relationship with Ryan.

'The message was a couple of weeks before. She kept quiet about it until Sunday,' adding that Greville had found messages in recent months between Giggs and a 'sports PR executive' and that Charles featured in them, arousing suspicion.

Giggs was arrested by officers on suspicion of assault towards Ms Greville, 36, and another woman, who is believed to be her relative, at his Salford home on Sunday following reports of 'a disturbance'.

Police were called to Giggs's home in Worsley, Salford shortly after 10pm on Sunday following reports of 'a disturbance'.

A woman was left with minor injuries following an alleged incident.

It is understood the former Manchester United star was arrested at the scene and taken into custody before being bailed on Monday.

The injured woman, in her 30s, did not require hospital treatment.

He denies all allegations of assault made against him and is 'co-operating with the police,' a statement released on his behalf said.

On Thursday, police sources said they were investigating claims that the footballer had committed actual bodily harm towards Ms Greville and common assault on another woman.

The two women have been questioned by police and footage of the arrest, which was filmed on body-cameras worn by officers at the scene, will also be investigated.

This week reports claimed Giggs's girlfriend feared he was cheating on her with two 'glamorous' women before a blazing row saw him arrested.

She allegedly confronted Giggs over 'flirty' messages to two women on his iPad, which was linked to his phone, before the pair engaged in a blazing row.

A source told The Sun earlier in the week: 'She knows who they are. One works in London as a PR to a high-profile footballer, the other is a model based in Cheshire. They're both younger than Giggs and very glamorous.'

Giggs, who was bailed on Monday, will step down as Wales manager for their next three games.

The Welsh FA moved swiftly after the allegations to remove Giggs from the touchline for next week's friendly against USA and the Nations League fixtures against Republic of Ireland and Finland that follow.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) said in a statement: 'The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp.

'Our agreed immediate priority is preparing the team for the upcoming international matches.

'Robert Page, with Ryan's support, will take charge for the next three matches against the USA, Republic of Ireland and Finland supported by Albert Stuivenberg.

'The Cymru squad for these upcoming matches will be announced on Thursday 5th November. The FAW will not be making any further comment at this current time.'

The statement followed 24 hours of frantic talks between FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford, the organisation's legal team and other senior officials.
