This is the terrifying moment a masked gang armed with machetes, axes and bats storm a house in broad daylight and smash up the place.

At least a dozen thugs wielding weapons were seen swarming the detached home in the leafy village of Church, near Accrington, Lancs., and destroying property indiscriminately in yesterday's shocking attack.

The front windows were smashed in, a television set was destroyed, and a BMW was left heavily damaged in a 30-second clip - filmed by the raiders, who descended on the home in several vehicles.

Police have since confirmed that three men have been arrested and remain in custody.

It is not known whether any residents were in at the time of the attack, though none appeared to be in the video and police confirmed no injuries were suffered.

The motive behind the attack is also unclear, though it is thought to have been targeted.

Footage of the raid was posted anonymously on social media yesterday and has been viewed more than 20,000 times.

It shows a group of masked men travelling in a car towards the house - already overrun with armed raiders wreaking havoc.

As they jump out to join in the rampage, a group of men are seen brazenly attacking a BMW parked outside the house with planks of wood.

Inside the property pure pandemonium reigns as screaming thugs jump on the furniture and one takes an axe to a flatscreen television.

The sound of breaking glass and crashing objects can be heard in other rooms as the wrecking spree spreads throughout the property.

The raiders then rush outside to waiting vehicles and flee the scene.

Viewers on social media were horrified by the wanton destruction.

One wrote: 'This is disgusting.'

Another said: 'Police have lost the streets.'

A third added: 'Britain is unravelling.'

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: 'We were called at 2.05pm yesterday to reports of public order offences in Tanpits Road, Church.

'It was reported a number of men had vandalised two cars, a Peugeot and BMW, before smashing the windows of a house.

'The group then forced their way inside the address before damaging further property including a television, ornaments, walls and rear windows.

'The men made off from the scene in four vehicles. No injuries were reported.

'Following enquiries police later arrested two men aged 35 and 27 from Bolton and a 26-year-old man from Trowbridge on suspicion of aggravated burglary. They are currently in custody.

'An investigation is underway and enquiries on-going. It is being treated as an isolated incident and offences of this nature are rare.

'Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 0714 of October 13.
