“Helen Reddy’s story is an amazing one, a great story of talent and determination,” said entertainment reporter Peter Ford.
“She won a contest to go to New York, she got there, and no-one wanted to know her.
“Only through grit and determination and good advice, she became big - one of the biggest music stars of the 1970s into the 1980s.
“She had a list of hits, but the one that will always be talked about and will live on for generations is I Am Woman, which she co-wrote - and it was such an anthem of its time and of today for women’s rights.
“She was a complex character - Australia always had a love-hate relationship with her, but we can’t deny her talent and her extraordinarily long career.”
