Terrifying British Zoom-based horror film Host takes the internet by storm after prank between friends turned into chilling lockdown masterpiece

A terrifying British horror film about a seance on Zoom has become an internet sensation after a prank between friends turned into a chilling lockdown masterpiece.
Host is about a group of young people who try to contact spirits during a call on the video conferencing platform - with the expert help of a medium.
But the psychic loses her internet connection causing chaos to ensue in the 57-minute film written by Jed Shepherd, Rob Savage and Gemma Hurley.
The concept began when Mr Savage - who said he was experiencing 'lockdown boredom' - was looking for a way to spook his friends during one of their Zoom calls.

He played the clip - which depicts a zombie face hidden in the dark over-head space - during a Zoom call, making it seem like it was real time in a chilling trick.
The demand for a full film with a similar concept was so high that Mr Savage and the team pulled out all the stops to create Host within just 12 weeks. The actors didn't know what was going to happen to each other as they were provided only partial scripts.
Actress Emma Louise Webb explained: 'We had no idea how the other cast members died or how the film ended. It was all redacted and kept secret.
'Glad though because I loved the surprise of watching it back.'
Shooting the film itself took just five-days and involved actors making their own special effects such as fake blood (actress Caroline Ward pictured)

It was made entirely remotely and premiered on subscription video platform Shudder last month.
Sam Raimi - the creator of horror film Evil Dead - will produce Shepherd and Savage's upcoming creation following the success of the short film, which is set to premiere in the UK.
Mr Savage told The Guardian: 'It's cool for me in years to come, when you look at this crazy time in history, we can point to [Host] and say "this is what we did with our friends".
'Something we wanted to have watched and that everyone else really liked.'
