You've been filling ice cube trays wrong your entire life: Millions are shocked after a video reveals what the flat grooves are REALLY for

  • A video on TikTok has revealed the correct way to fill an ice cube tray
  • Water should be poured onto the flat spots separating the grooves
  • This allows it to trickle gently into the surrounding sections without splashing
  • Vlogger 'Brittnaenae' asked viewers if she was 'just dumb' for filling it incorrectly
  • Thousands assured her she was not alone, saying they'd been doing the same
  • The clip has been viewed 4.3 million times since it was shared in early June
A TikTok video revealing the correct way to fill an ice cube tray has been hailed as 'revolutionary' by astounded viewers who say they've been doing it wrong their entire lives.
Vlogger 'Brittnaenae' shared the 10-second clip which shows that water should be poured onto the flat spots separating the grooves, allowing it to trickle down gently into the four surrounding sections without splashing or overflowing.
'Am I just dumb? Or did nobody else know this either? These little flat spots on ice cube trays are where you're supposed to fill the water,' she says in the video, which has been viewed 4.3 million times since it was shared earlier this month. She then demonstrates how she had been filling the cubes 'her whole life', letting water pour directly into the bottom of the grooves which causes it to spray all over her hands and sink.
Thousands assured her she was not alone, saying they'd been doing the same their entire lives.
'I was today years old when I learned this,' one woman said, who thought the flat sections were designed to help you remove the cubes when frozen.
'Not in all my 40 years did I know this. What the hell!,' said another.
A third told her there's no need to worry because ice cube trays 'never came with a manual, so you're good'.
One woman wondered why she bothered going to high school because she has learned more life skills on TikTok than she did during those six years of education.
Another said she was embarrassed to only learn the trick at the age of 35.
Others shared different techniques for filling trays without spillages.

'Hold it at an angle pointing downwards and fill it from the top, then it's like a water fall and fills up in like five seconds,' one person said.
A minority said they'd known the trick for years, with one man saying it's 'just common sense'.
'I've been doing this forever, my mum taught me!' said one woman
