Why you should clean your carpet NOW: Mum's disgusting video proves you need to wash your floors every seven days

  • An Australian mum revealed the dirty state of the carpet within her family home
  • She said she washes the carpet once a week because her son has asthma
  • Posting a video and images on Facebook, other mums were left in disgust
  • But some questioned if her Kmart vacuum cleaner was working properly or not
A mum has highlighted the importance of washing your floors regularly after she shared a video of all the dirt and grime in the carpet of her family home just seven days after the last clean.
A video and images shared to Australian cleaning group Mums Who Clean show brown, dirty water being released from the container of a steam carpet cleaner – which left many disgusted and horrified by their own cleaning habits.
Even after the water was poured into the sink, the dispenser from the carpet cleaner was left looking filthy from dirt particles.
While it is recommended to get your carpet professionally washed at least once a year, the Queensland woman said she uses the steam carpet cleaner every weekend or once a fortnight as her son suffers from asthma.

The mum revealed she uses the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner to remove the dirt after vacuuming.
'Well that makes me feel like a grot. My carpet is five years old and I just vacuum one to two times a week, though have been thinking to have it professionally cleaned soon,' one woman responded.
'If I had a kid with asthma, I would definitely pull [the carpet] up and replace with floorboards,' another commented, to which the woman replied she can't remove the carpet as she is renting.
Even though the video left some stunned and wanting to wash their carpets, others seemed sceptical and questioned if the vacuum she was using was faulty.

'I would say that your vacuum is not picking up enough dirt, that's why you need to shampoo so often,' one woman said.
The mum said they have three grate dane dogs that come inside the house 'all the time', which would lead to more dirt being transferred onto the carpet.
She also said to allow the carpet to dry quickly she uses industrial portable metal fans.
