NO CLUCKS GIVEN Fury as ‘selfish’ travellers leave piles of rubbish and CHICKEN behind after being moved from Scots leisure centre
TRAVELLERS have been blasted after leaving piles of rubbish and a live CHICKEN outside a popular gym and swimming pool.
The trash was left strewn over a grassy area next to Drumbrae Leisure Centre in Edinburgh.
Travellers, who had been staying on the land, were served a notice by the city council to move on.
But they left behind a shocking mess, with piles of garbage littering Drumbrae Park.
Bin bags filled with rubbish, including food packaging, nappies, clothing, garden waste, and alcohol cans, were dumped.
A cage was also discovered with a live chicken sitting on a black refuse sack.Hitting out, one disgusted local said: "Terrible state of affairs."
In a statement, The City of Edinburgh Council blasted the travellers' "selfish actions".
A cleanup operation was carried out earlier today to return the green space to its previous condition.
Transport and environment convener, Scott Arthur, said: “We’re aware that there has been a considerable amount of waste left in Drumbrae Park. It’s always really disappointing to see our public sites left in an unusable state, spoiling our beautiful city. The selfish actions of a few in so many cases can really affect those living in a local community. We’ve checked the site this morning and will commence clean up as soon as possible.”
Drumbrae Leisure Centre is popular with locals in the west of the capital. The council-run facility has a 25-metre swimming pool, gym, badminton courts, and a cafe.
Edinburgh residents have also been left outraged over motorhome users after turning a street into a "campsite".
Around 20 campervans have been parked on Fettes Avenue in the city's Comely Bank area
