COPS SHOOT Man in his 20s shot by armed cops in leafy street after fight between two people including man with weapon escalated
A MAN in his 20s has been shot by police on a quiet Surrey street after reports of two people fighting.
Cops were called to a property on Nursery Road, in Knaphill, Woking at around 12.30am on Sunday after reports of two people fighting in the street, including a man with a weapon
Officers fired a shot at a man in his 20s who was later rushed to hospital.
He remains in a critical but stable condition.
A weapon was later recovered and Surrey Police confirmed the two people were "known to each other".
They added there is "no anticipated risk to the wider public".
A mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been made since the shooting.
Nursery Road is partially cordoned off as cops advised people to avoid the area while enquiries are ongoing.
A police spokesperson said: "An independent investigation has been launched after a man was shot by armed police in the early hours of the morning in Woking.
"Officers were called to an address on Nursery Road, Knaphill, at 12.36am this morning following reports of an altercation between two people including a man armed with a weapon in the street."Officers attended and a man in his 20s was shot by armed police at the scene.
"The man has been taken to hospital for medical treatment, where he remains at this time in a critical but stable condition. His next of kin have been informed.
"Both parties involved in this incident are known to each other, and there is no anticipated risk to the wider public. A weapon has been recovered.
"We have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and will be supporting their investigation.
"We will not be able to comment further on the independent investigation into this incident."
Cops are also appealing for anyone with any information that might help with their enquiries.
