SMASH TRAGEDY Man killed as car ploughs into pedestrians ‘at packed crossing’ in horror rush-hour crash leaving three others injured

The horror crash took place on the A24 Merantun Way in Colliers Wood, south London, at around 12.15pm on Sunday

A 49-year-old man, one of the pedestrians, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Three other pedestrians were rushed to hospital.

They are being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police say.

The driver, who stopped at the scene, was also taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Colliers Wood.

"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, one of the pedestrians, a 49-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"Three other pedestrians involved were taken to hospital, where their condition has been assessed as not life-threatening. Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the collision

"The investigation is led by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton. There have been no arrests."
