However, it will be the sci-fi show's last as bosses confirmed they've canned it.

3 Body Problem stars Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao and Liam Cunningham.

Its plot sees Rosalind's character respond to contact from an alien at a secret military base camp.

But it has consequences for the present day as scientists are forced to confront humanity's greatest threat.

In a statement, the showrunners said: “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion.

“Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

The Hollywood Reporter claim bosses originally wanted Netflix to green light the show for four series.

It's unclear how many episodes the second and final season will be - or when they'll start filming.Reacting to the news, one fan said: "Has been renewed means what were they thinking when they left us in hanging with the season 1?"

A second wrote: "Thought to its conclusion? So just one more season? Even though the books are trilogy?"

"Oh okay. If you’re definitely concluding it then I’ll watch it. Not getting stuffed over again like 1899.," said a third.
