Here's how cheating in couples has changed overtime

The dating site for married people illicitencounters.com asked 2,000 of its members at what point in their marriages they started to want a fling.

Seven per cent who said they or their partner had cheated did so in the first year of marriage.

Five per cent strayed after two years and 12 per cent did so after four or five years.

Eleven per cent cheated on their partner in the sixth year of marriage.Of those who had cheated at some point, nearly half blamed a growing lack of intimacy in their marriage.

Almost a quarter said the arrival of children changed their relationship and led to pressures which also caused cracks in the relationship.

Another 16 per cent said they had become bored and were looking for excitement.

Jessica Leoni, a spokeswoman for illicitencounters.com, said: “In this fast-paced world, couples now come to a crossroads much sooner than they did in the past.”
