Helicopter crew rescues couple and their dog who were trapped for nearly two months by heavy snow and downed trees in a cabin in the Northern California wilderness

A Northern California couple and their dog had to be rescued this week by a helicopter crew after they spent nearly two months snowed in at a remote cabin.

The California Highway Patrol's Valley Division Air Operators on Wednesday shared a video on its Facebook page, showing its H-20 helicopter hovering over the trapped couple's snowbound home.

According to the agency, the couple, who were not named, had been stuck there in Sierra County since December 6.

It is unclear why the couple waited for nearly two months to call for help. DailyMail.com on Friday reached out to CHP for comment.

The stranded residents on Tuesday contacted the Sierra Sheriff's Office, but because of the cabin's remote location and roads blocked by heavy snowfall, deputies could not reach them and asked CHP for assistance with the rescue.

The state agency dispatched the H-20 helicopter, which was able to land near the cabin, in very strong wind.

During December, the area around Lake Tahoe saw a record-breaking 17 feet of snow, which toppled trees and downed power lines.
