Pluto, 11, is a sweet-tempered cross-breed dog who was saved from a Romanian kill shelter by the Bucharest-based non-profit Nobody Dogs Rescue Centre in December 2010, when he was just four days oldHis mother and siblings were adopted, but 11 years on, Pluto still lives in the rescue's centre near Bucharest, and has never left the ranch, The Daily Mirror reported.

In spite of sharing several appeals on Facebook to find Pluto and his brother Dino a loving family, Nobody Rescue has not been successful.

Dino died at the shelter without having ever experienced a forever home.

Alena Stan, who runs Nobody Rescue and works with the UK organisation, Bridging The Gap Rescue, is worried the pup will know the same fate as his brotherPluto, his mother and his siblings were all rescued from the kill shelter in December 2010 when the puppies were four days old, and Alena put them up for adoption a few weeks later.

While four of the puppies found homes, Pluto and Dino were left behind.

Alena said the 'sweet' pup has never ventured outside of the rescue's ranch, and is still very active for his age.

'The kennels and shelter is all he’s ever known,' she explained, adding, 'you wouldn’t know he is a senior dog.'

The rescue centre owner said Pluto has never ben aggressive towards anyone and gets on well with other animals, as well as children.

She added the pup is used to walking on a lead and would love to settle down with a family in a rural area with plenty of space.

The pooch has never been in a city surrounding and will need a patient owner that will help him adapt to these new sounds, Alena added.

Alena, who has shared repeated adoption pleas for Pluto over the years, said it is difficult to rescue pets in Romania because people do not check private shelters before they buy a dog.

Stray dogs are not rescued by public shelters in Romania. Instead dog catchers are paid by the government to round strays up and send them to 'kill shelters' were they are kept in cages and underfed, waiting 14 days before being killed.

Bridge the Gap Rescue is a non-profit which works to find Romanian strays forever homes across Europe.

The dogs are looked after the organisation's vets before they are safely and humanely transported in DEFRA-approved carriers to their forever home cross borders.

The organisation looks after all the paperwork, including entry requirements for the pups to make sure they make it to their final destination in one piece.
