She also shared a video of Patti cheekily grabbing a box of matches.

'I gave you quite a few toys and bought you some nice things,' Miss Hart says in the clip.

'You've chosen to take a box of matches off a shelf... so well, you're cheap I suppose... but also rude.'

The Call The Midwife actress had looked after Peggy, a shih tzu-bichon frise cross, since 2007 and credited her with helping her through tough moments in her life, including past heartbreak.

She announced the death of her 'loyal, loving best friend' on Instagram on January 17 last year, saying she was taking a break from work and social media.

Encouraging fans to appreciate their pets, she said their 'unconditional loving presence is such an incredible gift'.

Miranda's dog, which she described as her 'absolute rock', was the inspiration for her 2016 memoir Peggy And Me.

Alongside a series of heartwarming throwback images, the Miranda star said on her Instagram page at the time: 'Last week I said goodbye to my beautiful, darling dog Peggy.

'I share because I shared her with you when I wrote Peggy and Me and many of you took her to your hearts.

'I have always been amused by and grateful for the pictures and gifts she was showered with. She used a blanket a fan gave her in Australia until the end.'

The media personality went on to reflect on how Peggy was a favourite among fans, sharing: 'She was recognised more than once in public when friends walked her.

'Once when I was walking her and the woman looked at me said 'oh my goodness... is that Peggy, I can't believe it'.

'And then looked at me again, when I thought I might be showered in a compliment, and she just said suspiciously 'how come you get to walk her?' I proudly and with a lot of internal giggles said ''I am Peggy's owner''!'

The award-winning writer reflected on her grief as she explained: 'Fellow dog owners will know the excruciating sadness of losing your loyal, loving best friend. The pain mirrors the unique joy, connection, comfort and love they bring. 'And Peggy was my absolute rock and source of all those things. Their uncompromising, unconditional loving presence is such an incredible gift. Enjoy your dogs as much as you can. They are great teachers.'

Miranda added: 'I'm using this time to take some time away from work / posting to write and rest and see what the new chapter will be.

'Take very good gentle care of yourselves, please thank you please. Love oo. Peggy - you were always by my side and always on my side. I will miss you everyday. #peggyandme.' (sic)

The thespian later shared the link to her post on Twitter, alongside the tweet: 'It explains why I will be taking some time away after saying goodbye to my darling dog.

In September 2016, Miranda revealed how a bad relationship breakup left her devastated – until Peggy came into her life.

The Call The Midwife star, who rarely speaks about her personal life, was left 'lonely, isolated and depressed' after her split, but pulled through thanks to her pooch.

In an extract from her book Peggy And Me, the Devon native said she believed she'd never love again.

She said: 'When Peggy appeared in my life I’d just ended a long-term relationship and the Hart heart was not in the best shape.

'And I thought perhaps this dog is going to turn it all around. I realised it’s better to be single than to be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t give kind, loving and trusting approval. I had a being who loved me. It didn’t matter that it was just a dog.

'Owning Peggy was the only thing that qualified me as any sort of adult; without her, despite being a year or two into my 30s, I felt little more than an overgrown sixth former to whom someone had randomly and inadvisably given a job.'
