Surprise visit! Moment a massive elk rings doorbell with its antlers before tucking into homeowner's flowers

A Colorado householder was shocked to see a large elk ringing his doorbell with his antler.

A motion-sensor doorbell camera caught the moment the animal arrived on James F Jonell's porch.

The animal then tucked into the  Christmas floral display at Jonell's home in Estes Park, Colorado.

After a few seconds of rummaging the video picks up the sound of the doorbell being triggered.

After eating some flowers outside the elk then turns and nibbles on a Christmas wreath on the side of the porch.

James F Jonell posted the footage online where people began commenting on the unusual video.

One person wrote: 'So cute! He was sniffing the wreath as if something tasty might be on it.'

Another said: 'Whew! That's a mighty big visitor! I suppose that he assumed that no one was home!'

Another added: 'Did this elk just ring the bell of this house? Wtf lol!!

'He was like: "hello, anyone home? I need something to munch on!'
