Mystery over death of British boxer, 31, who was found shot dead after moving to Las Vegas as family tell inquest they believe he was murdered by his new wife and did NOT kill himself

A British boxer who was suspected of shooting himself dead after moving to Las Vegas was murdered by his new wife during the 'tumultuous' marriage, his family have told his inquest.

Donovan Cameron, 31, from Manchester, was found in the bedroom of his house in Henderson, Nevada, by his wife of nine months Andrea Miller with a Walther 9mm semi-automatic by his side.

Police in the US investigating the tragedy on January 10 2019, concluded that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and closed the case.

But at an inquest in Manchester this week, Mr Cameron's brothers and sister claimed he has been murdered by Ms Miller or her father after the boxer suddenly lost money and struggled to make ends meet.

They claimed Ms Miller's father - who was not named at the hearing - had shot at Mr Cameron twice previously before calling him a 'n*****' while Ms Miller herself ran over her husband with her truck saying 'if I can't have him then no one else can'.

Coroner Nigel Meadows at the hearing this week recorded an open verdict, saying he was 'not satisfied there is enough evidence to come to the conclusion of suicide' and said it was 'possible that there might have been other explanations.'

He told the hearing: 'It's possible that Donovan did shoot himself. It's possible but not probable. It's possible that he did intend to end his own life. Possible but not probable. It's possible that there might have been other explanations.'

Super welterweight Cameron, originally from Gorton, Manchester had moved to the US to be trained by Dewey Cooper in Las Vegas at the world-famous Floyd Mayweather Boxing Club.

He made his professional debut in 2015, at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, Virginia where he knocked out Marqus Jackson.

He subsequently won three boxing matches in 2016 but after defeating Nathan Perry he never fought professionally again.

His brother Clifton said that he and Donovan had lost touch after Donovan's initial success in the US led to him leading a lavish lifestyle which eventually created financial difficulties for his late brother.

Clifton added: 'He has a 12-year-old son from a previous relationship and when he went to the USA, he would go back and forth to the UK to see him.

'On the day it happened, (Andrea) seemed calm and said for some reason, he shot himself whilst her father was apparently in the next room sleeping. I just couldn't imagine that Donovan committed suicide.

'It does seem to me and other family members that there was more going on. My brother was a bubbly, funny, powerful person with a strong mind and will.'

Cameron's other brother Marcel said: 'On January 10, 2019, my brother was FaceTiming me and was going to come back to the UK and start up a boxing gym and do music.

'That same morning that he told me his plans, he was dead. We are convinced, given the history of the relationship, that both Andrea and her father were involved'.

He continued: 'Andrea's father had shot at Donovan twice before calling him a 'n****'. And Andrea did run over my brother with her truck around July saying, 'if she couldn't have him then no one else can'.

'Andrea Miller was never his wife. She was not his next of kin. She said to my mother after she killed Donovan, 'let's just cremate his body'.

'I do know that she and her father killed Donovan and that she took all his money. The marriage was a shambles. She was never his wife.'

A report from Nevada state police officer was Michael Calarco read: 'Mr Cameron was married to Andrea Miller since April 2018 but both had been arguing lately. She said he felt depressed due to him not being able to work in the USA and being unable to support his family.

'Mr Cameron was a UK citizen and a legal US resident and Miss Miller stated her father had allowed them to stay at his house for the last couple of days, and there was constant tension between them.

That day they went to the dispensary and purchased some marijuana. They returned home. Mr Cameron smoked it and then asked Miss Miller to get him some water.

'Mr Cameron's wife then heard a gunshot and found her husband on the floor bleeding. A firearm was next to him and is appeared he shot himself in the side of the head.

'At the time of this report, Miss Miller was unable to provide a routine statement due to her shock.'

US coroner Nancy Dahl's report on the tragedy read: 'Mr Cameron was last seen alive by Andrea Miller at 09:50 on January 10, 2019, when he asked her to go downstairs to get him some water. She was downstairs when she heard a gunshot.

'She ran upstairs to find him unresponsive with a gun nearby and blood all over. She phoned 911 at 09:58.

'Miss Miller relayed that the deceased had not been officially diagnosed but thought he suffered from depression and maybe bipolar.

'He was unable to get a work permit in the USA. She and her father relayed that he drank excessively, in terms of vodka, and smoked marijuana excessively recently.

'Miss Miller said that he had suicidal ideation and possibly, two years ago, attempted to take his own life, taking pills and drink, and he went to the hospital.

Mr Cameron, the deceased, and Miss Miller had a tumultuous relationship. They had just moved in on January 7, 2019 and she stated that there had been several domestic violence incidents, most recently in December 2018.

'There were signs of marijuana use but no signs of alcohol or tobacco use. There was no sign of a struggle, forced entry or foul play'.
