Residents in Godalming say an argument broke out at The Leathern Bottle on Friday night, moments before the driver was seen ramming nearby cars.

After shunting an empty BMW several metres forward, the Land Rover driver then pulls out of the nearby junction onto the A3100 and collides with a motorbike.

Video shows the teenage rider being flung into the air in the crash before smashing into the ground. Family members say the boy escaped with just minor injuries.

Today Surrey Police have revealed that a 17-year-old from the town has been arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

A second man, a 24 year-old man, also from Godalming, was arrested on suspicion of affray. Both have been released on bail and enquires are ongoing.

Local residents claim the incident began as a row in The Leathern Bottle, before spilling out into the street.

One told MailOnline the argument involved a 'local hardman from the traveller community' who had been refused service at the pub because he is blacklisted on the area's PubWatch scheme.

Meanwhile other residents revealed how hero staff and customers at the pub rushed to the aid of the teenage biker in the aftermath of the crash.Shocking footage, taken on Friday in Godalming, Surrey, shows the vehicle, still with 'L' plates attached to the rear, driving into the back of a stationary car before turning into the middle of the road

A first aider in the pub is said to have rushed to the teenager's aid. Staff at the pub are also said to have grabbed duvets and tea for all of those involved.

Meanwhile, members of the teenager's family today announced that despite the severity of the crash, he had since been released from hospital with minor injuries.

In a statement, posted on Facebook, his family said: 'We wish to thank all those involved in the care of our son after he was involved in the road traffic collision on Friday.

'We would like to thank the Fire Service for their care, Elaine and the staff at The Leathern Bottle and the wonderful nurse (did not get a name) who stayed with our son until the paramedic arrived.

'(We also want to thank) Godalming Naval club and all those who were there to support.

'Our son is ok, he has been extremely lucky. Thank you doesn't seem enough but it seems that is all we can say. 'One person who said they witnessed the incident said staff and customers inside the Leathern Bottle pub rushed out to help the boy after the crash.

They said: 'I can assure you that staff and a customer first aider immediately attended to the young boy while waiting for emergency services from the Leathern Bottle.

'I understand as had been said the young lad of 17 is now at home thank god for this and best wishes to him and this family.

'The Leathern Bottle is a respectable pub and like all local businesses is trying to run a successful business after hard times for all.

'Suggest all businesses work together to make all success and stop some of comments hearing which are totally inaccurate. Our best wishes once again go to the young lad and family.'

Another said to be at the scene at the time, said: 'Leathern Bottle staff provided duvets and tea for all involved and a customer who was a nurse attended to him as did I and everyone there.'

The shocking scenes leading up to the crash, which was captured on video, showed a shirtless man driving a blue Land Rover into another vehicle before the sickening collision with the teenage motorcyclist.

The carnage unfolded outside the Leathern Bottle pub in the town with frantic locals shouting at the driver to stop and get out of the car during what they called a 'rampage'.

In a 90-second clip shared widely on social media, the Land Rover is seen hurtling over grass verges with no lights on, and colliding with a stationary car.

The driver then performs a u-turn in the middle of a junction and lines the Land Rover up, driving back off the road onto the verge at speed.

He smashes into the side of a convertible car as he emerges back on to the road, leaving one witness shouting: 'He's done it again! My f***ing motor!'

The Land Rover turns around in a car park behind the pub and smashes back into the convertible as he returns, pushing it off the road.

It then heads straight out of the side road and collides with the motorbike, before the incident ends the now badly damaged 4x4 lurches a few more yards and hits the side of a Vauxhall Vivaro van.

The shirtless driver emerges from the Land Rover – which has learners' L-Plates on it – and tells onlookers 'my steering lock's broke' before grabbing items from the boot.

Onlookers shouted 'call the police' but no emergency services had arrived by the time the video ended.
