- Said sleep on sofa because bed is so old and squeaky they fear it'll wake TheaViewers of How to Save a Grand in 24 Hours have slammed a couple who splash out £420-a-month on takeaways and sleep on the sofa because they 'can't afford' to replace their broken bed.
Mabel and shopaholic husband Sol, 39, from Hounslow, West London, appeared on the Channel 4 documentary last night and confessed they were struggling to juggle working from home and looking after their baby Thea, 17 months - resulting in their local takeaway being on speed dial for dinner.
During the show, presenter Anna Richardson shocked the couple and viewers alike by revealing their love of fast food costs them a whopping £420-a-month - the equivalent of £5,040-a-year. 'Who the heck spends over £400 a month on takeaway,' wrote one, while a second commented: 'Odd that this couple would spend £420 pcm on takeaway but not a one time spend on a new bed £320 bearing in mind their bed was very old and needed replacing.'

Taking to the comments section, one person penned: 'Who the heck spends over £400 a month on takeaway' (pictured)The first-time parents explained they didn't realise just how much their daughter Thea would quite literally, turn their world upside down when she was born - with her baby clothes and toys jammed into every crevice in their house.
'Life after a baby - it's like your life exploded,' explained Mabel. 'There's baby stuff everywhere...just bombed by the baby! Thea has around 100-200 different items of clothing.'To make matters worse, just after Thea was born, Sol explained to viewers that he lost his job as a Sales Manager during the pandemic.
'Where we had some structure before, now, it's not there at all,' he admitted.
Just after Thea was born, Sol (pictured, right) lost his job as a Sales Manager during the pandemic, so Mabel's (left) incomes as a senior project manager kept them afloat

Mabel, whose incomes as a senior project manager kept them afloat, added: 'If we didn't have finances to worry about, I reckon our lives would be completely different - and that's where we need help.'
While the couple explained they are good at managing credit cards, it didn't take long for the experts to realise they're bad when it comes to food shopping - spending above average at the supermarket every month and then forking out on takeaways every day because they're either too tired or don't have time to cook.
'Since Thea, we do not get to cook our favourite food as often as we like,' explained Mabel. 'We try our best, truly, but it's not always possible.'
Presenter Anna Richardson also revealed the new, knackered parents don't even sleep in their own bed because they're worried the squeaking will wake Thea up - opting for the sofa instead.
'The bed squeaks - it's an old bed,' said Sol. 'I bought it when we moved in nearly 13 years ago now.'
And viewers were left gobsmacked to learn that the couple prioritised fast food over investing in a good night's sleep.
'Maybe they could build a bed with all the takeaway boxes?' joked one, while a second commented: 'I just love how people who spend £100 a week on takeaways seem oblivious to quite how much money that actually is?'

A third added: 'You taking the Michael? Just flicked onto the end of #howtosaveagrand to see you "helped" a couple realise they could save money by not spending...£470 on takeaways.'
The experts went on to reveal that the married couple's monthly food shop came to a whopping £390 - £100 more than the average two adult, one toddler family.
The couple, whose monthly spend is about £100 more than they're making, also told how Sol is a shopaholic - especially when it came to buying clothes for his daughters.
Anna revealed that he spends £40-per-month on Thea, meaning if he continued up until she hit 16, it'd set the couple back just over £7,500.
During the show, Gary Usher came to their aid by demonstrating how they can recreate their favourite dishes at home, Eve Humphreys converted their bedroom back into an adult sleeping paradise, while Peachy Clean gave the place a much-needed tidy.
