Gold Coast mum Kat Lane posted video with her 17,000 TikTok followers and shared how she organises her family's belongings when moving.

Using a $12 packet of coloured paper from Kmart, she corresponds each colour to a different room in the new house, then sticks a piece of cardboard on the box.The products for each room are packed into the correct boxes and placed in the right room upon arrival at the new location.

Colour coordinating the boxes makes it easier to ensure the boxes are placed in the right room without having to read what has been written on top.

Within three days of sharing the hack online, the video went viral and received more than 380,000 views.

In the clip she cuts several different colours into strips, then fold the pieces in half and sticks them onto the edges of the box.

On each strip she writes what is in the box while the colour itself represents a different room.

Small pieces of paper were also stuck on door handles to make the process even easier for children, friends and moving professionals.  'On a separate sheet of paper, I pop on each of the colours and write next to them what room they go in,' Kat said in the video.

'When you get to the new house, pop that piece of paper next to your front door and also pop a piece of paper on each of the doors so everybody knows exactly what boxes go with which room.'

The handy tip would be useful if friends and family are providing assistance when moving.

While the colours resemble different rooms, she wrote what is inside each box on the coloured strip

Hundreds of other TikTok users flooded the comments section of the video after it was shared with many labelling the hack as 'genius' and 'brilliant'.

'This is an incredible idea and I'm honestly mad you didn't tell me sooner,' one person wrote.

'Cannot wait to move houses, this is a cute little touch for people helping you out so they aren't asking every two seconds,' another added.

A third said: 'You can immediately see what box goes where without having to read it, then you only need to open the box you need.'
