The Grade II-listed Pool Park, which is located in the market town of Ruthin, North Wales, is surrounded by 23 acres of land and features period fireplaces, a carved oak staircase, Gothic inspired architecture and a walled garden area.

Sitting just a stone's throw away from Ruthin Castle, the historic building dates back to the 16th Century when it was home to the wealthy Salesbury family.

In 1937, it was opened as an asylum for 87 patients by the North Wales Counties Mental Hospital to provide relief for the over-crowded nearby Denbigh Asylum before it was permanently closed down in 1989.

However in recent years the property has become known for its spooky reputation, with ghosthunters claiming they have been attacked by the demonic spirits lurking inside.

A step inside the 'haunted' house reveals a spacious living area that features a fireplace while another room comes with large windows that allow light to flood through.

The manor house also features period fireplaces, a carved oak staircase, elaborate wood panelling and a half-timbered facade but the deep mullioned windows and plaster moulded ceilings are in need of a renovation.

It also boats a historic walled garden that is surrounded by acres of woodland and comes with various outbuildings.

The manor house was rebuilt for William Bagot, 2nd Baron Bagot, in the 1820s before it was lost in a bet in the races in 1928, according to local folklore.

It was then sold to the District Health Authority and later used an an overspill for North Wales Hospital in Denbigh before closing in 1989The home was then sold to developers Robert Homes with plans to become a care village before it was put on the market.

Estate agents Jackson-Stops say it could be transformed into a stunning home or even a country house hotel subject to planning.

Jackson-Stops said: 'Pool Park is a substantial country residence of historical importance and represents a very early and accomplished example of this revival style and is fully deserving of its Grade II listing.'

In 2018, paranormal groups who called themselves The Ouija Brothers and Dark Arts both claimed the home was possessed by an aggressive spirit and carried an evil energy.

Ghosthunter Jason Griffiths said: 'There's a very dark, heavy presence at Pool Park and if you don't listen to it and pay it attention, it makes itself known.

'You can feel when he's near, the surrounding energy becomes heavy.'

Mr Griffiths from The Ouija Brothers claimed his friend Karl Hassel from Dark Arts was once attacked by an aggressive spirit and possibly possessed at Pool Park.

He added: 'Some people remain a sceptic whatever their experience, like a friend of ours.

'He joined the group at Pool Parc and was physically pushed in the chest so hard it stopped him from entering a room.

'He's 6 ft 7, so that's not an easy thing to do, but he still doesn't believe!'
