A VICTIM of serial baby killer Beverley Allitt fears the 'Angel of Death' could be freed from prison in weeks and "get her".
The evil nurse injected one-year-old Kayley Asher with air which caused her lungs to collapse and triggered two cardiac arrests.
Little Kayleigh almost died at the Grantham and Kesteven Hospital, Lincolnshire, in 1991, but was thankfully resuscitated.
However, she suffered severe brain damage and has spent years checking under her bed and in her drawers for the twisted killer.
Now, aged 31, Kayley is terrified Allitt, who was given 13 life sentences in 1993 for killing four babies and harming nine other children, could be released from behind bars, The Mirror reports.
The 52-year-old is being held at a high-security psychiatric hospital but her minimum sentence tariff of 30 years expires in November.
If she is deemed fit to transfer to a prison, she will be given the right to apply for parole, or early release.
Kayley's dad Alan, 64, said his daughter often asks: "Will she come and get me?"
He added: "Kayley looks under her bed and in her wardrobe for Allitt.
"This can go on for days and days and often we find her in the early hours of the morning searching."Alan said his family has "genuine fear" Allitt could "walk into our lives one day" and wishes she could spend the rest of her life behind bars.
"It’s scary to think Allitt could one day be free," he said. "I can’t see the difference between her and Peter Sutcliffe."
He also said they fear Allitt, dubbed the 'Angel of Death', could be given a new identity like Robert Thompson and Jon Venables who killed two-year-old Jamie Bulger in 1993.
He said: "Despite the passage of time a lot of people are still very angry so there’s no telling what could happen to her.
"The only way to guarantee her safety would be a new identity and that would leave us looking over our shoulders."
Kayley was 15 months old when she was attacked by Allitt during a terrifying 59-day killing spree.
She had been admitted for a chest infection but almost died after Allitt injected her with a potentially fatal air bubble under her arm.
The nurse murdered four children - seven-year-old Liam Taylor, 11-year-old Timothy Hardwick, two-month-old Becky Phillips and 15-month-old Claire Peck - and attempted to kill nine others.
Allitt carried out her attacking spree by tampering with injections at the hospital before staff noticed the high death toll and called police.
Staff records showed Allitt had been on duty when all the incidents occurred.
In 1993, Allitt received 13 life sentences for her crimes, with the judge telling her she was "a serious danger" to others and was unlikely ever to be considered safe enough for release.
But in 2007 a high court ruled Allitt must serve a minimum of 28 years and 175 days in jail.
She has been detained at Rampton Secure Hospital in Nottinghamshire and would need to be cleared by doctors to enter prison before any bid for parole, it is understood.
FIGHT AGAINST RELEASE
Alan said: "When the 30-year minimum sentence was given we felt the punishment was good. But now that deadline is on the horizon we will fight any attempt to release her.
"I have no idea what she looks like now. I probably wouldn’t even recognise her if she walked past me in the street."
Because of new rules, it would be down to the Ministry of Justice to refer Allitt to the Parole Board, following legal guidelines.
The board told The Mirror her case had not been referred to them at this stage.
The mum of another of Allitt's victims was furious earlier this year when the killer got her Covid jab before her daughter — who was left disabled by the evil nurse.
Sue Laccohee said: "It annoys me that anybody who has done wrong can get the jab before other people that need it most."
Her daughter, Katie Phillips, was just two months old when Allitt gave her a near-fatal insulin overdose, which killed her twin sister Becky.
Allitt attempted to kill Katie four times by suffocation and injections of insulin and potassium, which has caused her brain damage, partial paralysis and blindness and requiring 24/7 care.
