Join my cub! Dog is caught on camera playing with a young BEAR in his back yard

  • German Shepherd caught playing with bear on camera in back yard in Vermont
  • The young black bear dances on its hind legs as the pair chase one another
  • Family were 'relieved' when they watched the playful exchange end amicably This is the remarkable moment a dog was caught on camera playing with a wild bear.

When Jenn Sargent was cooking dinner at home in Vermont on June 30, she had no idea her pooch Jameson had made an unusual new playmate in the back yard.

After being tipped off by her neighbors, the 37-year-old checked home security footage and couldn't believe her eyes as her German shepherd appeared in the frame, closely followed by a juvenile bear.At one point the black bear reared up on its back legs but appeared to be in a playful mood

The mother-of-two watched as Jameson led the 150lb animal into the middle of the grass, bounding around it playfully as if trying to start a game.At one point the black bear did rear up on to its back legs but appeared to be in a good mood as it bounced around after Jameson and chased him across the yard - leaving the family feeling 'relieved' that the encounter had ended well.

Jenn said: 'While it was a great video, my main emotion was pure relief.

'I was thankful my young children were not outside, the dog had no injuries and the fact that this bear was in a playful mood.

'This could have been a bad ending but Jameson did appear to be looking for him to come back and play.

The mother-of-two said the pair chased each other around the yard for about seven minutes

'Jameson is usually quite territorial and not this playful with strangers. Bears live in the area but they are not usually this brave and it is not common for them to interact with dogs like this.

Local residents say this baby bear and possibly his mother have been frequently spotted in recent weeks.

After growing up in Montreal, where the city's wildlife was very different, Jenn says she had 'never seen anything like this.' .

She continued: 'This particular bear and possibly his mother have been getting a lot of sightings in the area.

'Fortunately neither Jameson nor the bear were injured. I think they were playing around the house for about seven minutes in total.

'Neighbours have been seeing this bear a lot lately and along with another larger one, which we believe to be his mother.

'Our neighbours saw them playing and let us know, so we watched the cameras back and had this awesome clip.

'I grew up in Montreal and city life is very different. There we had squirrels and maybe the odd raccoon, but I never thought I'd live to see something like this.'
