TikTok monkey George dead – Viral star who stole hearts of his 17million followers dies during dental check up
TIKTOK star George the monkey died during a visit to the vet for a routine checkup on his teeth.
The 12-year-old animal had more than 17million followers on the video platform and over 500,000 fans on Instagram.
Many of the clips shared on the social media platforms were of him opening gifts that he had received from his thousands of fans, IB Times reports.
The monkey, affectionately known as Georgie, was sent bags of fan mail and received presents ranging from stickers and toys to a ride-on car.
The TikTok star died on June 7 during a routine check-up at the dentist after suffering complications from anesthesia.
He had been living with a couple in Texas for the past 10 years.
The capuchin was originally bought for their mother who has a nerve disorder, HITC reports.
In an emotional statement, they said: “George was light when things seemed dark. And he was a reminder of the love that exists in all of us.
“Though the fun-loving life of George has left, his spirit of hope and love lives on. We love you, George.”
Tributes poured in from his Instagram followers after news of his death broke.
One said: "This doesn't seem real. I'm so sorry for your loss."
Another posted: "George, you had the power to make everyone happy and laugh when they were down. Such a loving little soul. My thoughts especially to his immediate family. Such sad news. Can't believe it."Some social media users described George's death as the "worst news that they had heard all year".
The TikTok star had recently celebrated his 12th birthday.
He had a sister named Lacy who recently underwent surgery for an oversized ovary.
