'Teenage boy' is rushed to hospital with serious wounds after being shot on the street close to a north London school

• One man arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon A young man was airlifted to hospital after being shot close to a nursery school in a north London borough yesterday afternoon. 

  Emergency services were called to Hornsey Rise Gardens, Islington, at 4.24pm on Tuesday after police received reports of multiple gunshots in the area.

  Officers in attendance discovered an injured man with gunshot wounds and called London air ambulance - who airlifted him to hospital.

  Eyewitnesses described the victim as a 'teenage boy', who was given CPR by neighbours in the wake of the shooting.

  One man has been arrested after the victim, who has yet to be identified, was shot in the north London borough this afternoon. 

  Crouch Hill residents reported hearing three shots, as the shooting took place just 100 metres away from nearby Hornsey Day Nursery School.

  Police officers set up a crime scene and comb through potential evidence in Hornsey Rise Gardens, Islington yesterday afternoon 

  After the crime scene was set up, officers were pictured combing through discarded items on the street - including a black shoe, clothes and a bright green bag.

  An eyewitness told MyLondon: 'When I came out the front door to see what happened there, what looked to be, teenage boy lying on the ground at the foot of the alley on his front with blood coming from him.

  'A couple of guys were examining him and then started giving him CPR and I called 999.'

  Officers' stop and search powers have been temporarily boosted after a Section 60 order was authorised for a large part of the north London borough.

  The temporary measure drops the requirement for officers to 'reasonably' suspect someone of a crime before undertaking a stop and search. 

  A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'A man was found with a gunshot injury and taken to hospital. 

  'A man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken into custody.

  'A crime scene remains in place and inquiries are ongoing. A Section 60 has been authorised for a large part of the borough of Islington.
