Celebrities you didn’t realise had run-ins with the law from Stephen Fry’s fraud to Gino D’Acampo’s burglary

 EVEN celebrities fall foul of the law from time to time.

Most recently Clare Balding confessed she was suspended from school after stealing from the village shop.

And she's not the only one to have run into trouble in the past, with many stars committing a crime at some stage.

From assault to even being cleared of attempted murder charges, here are some other A-listers who've had run ins with the authorities...

Cheryl

Assault

In 2003, Cheryl was arrested for attacking nightclub toilet attendant Sophie Amogbokpa, reportedly after a row over some lollipops.

The singer admitted calling her a "f***ing b***h" but denied using racist language.

Cheryl was found not guilty of racially aggravated assault at the Drink Club, Guildford, but found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She was sentenced to complete 120 hours of unpaid community service and ordered to pay the victim £500.

Gino D'Acampo

Burglary

Celebrity chef Gino was jailed in 1998 before turning his life around to become one of the UK’s favourite TV cooks and a This Morning regular.

After moving to London from Italy aged 19, Gino fell into the wrong crowd and turned to crime.

He burgled the house of famous 80s musician Paul Young and stole his £4,000 guitar collection and a platinum disc.

Gino was caught after his DNA matched tests on cigarette butts he had dropped and he was sentenced to two years behind bars and apologised to Paul.

Paul later said: “He said he was in a terrible place at that time and wanted to turn his life around.”

Naomi Campbell

Assault

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was sentenced to five days community service in New York after an altercation with a maid resulted in the star throwing a mobile phone at her employee.

She turned her time with the sanitation department into a catwalk - and even arrived on the final day in a Dolce and Gabana gown.

Speaking about her couture wardrobe, she told Grazia: "Why shouldn't I have done? Why should they expect me to go looking bedraggled or something?"

In 2008 she was given community service again, for "going berserk" on a plane, kicking and spitting at police officers after one of her bags had gone missing.

Stephen Fry

Credit card fraud

At the age of 17, Stephen Fry allegedly picked up the coat of a family friend and discovered a credit card in one of the pockets.

He was arrested after going on a spending spree, blowing money and paying for expensive hotels while staying in Swindon.

Fry was sentenced to three months in prison.

He has since written to celebrities in prison to ensure they "get the best" out of their experience in there.

Will Smith

Aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy charges

In 1989 Smith was allegedly part of a gang that assaulted a man, leaving him almost blind.

The charges against the 44-year-old actor, which were later dismissed, included aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Mark Wahlberg

Attempted murder charges

At the age of 16, actor Mark Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked two Vietnamese men.

He reportedly beat one with a wooden stick, knocking him unconscious, and punched another in the face the same day.

Wahlberg pleaded guilty to assault, claiming that he was intoxicated and that the attacks weren’t race-related. He served 45 days of a two-year
sentence in a correctional unit.

He later tried to seek a pardon, saying: "I am deeply sorry for the actions that I took on the night of April 8, 1988, as well as for any lasting damage that I may have caused the victims.

"Since that time, I have dedicated myself to becoming a better person and citizen so that I can be a role model to my children and others."

Nick Pickard

Drink driving

Back in 2012 Digital Spy reported Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard, who plays Tony Hutchinson, had been banned from the road for 12 months after admitting drink-driving.

Pickard's solicitor told the court: "He wishes to express his remorse and regret, and he acknowledges he made a grave error in judgement.

"He had consumed alcohol earlier that day. He thought the alcohol had gone from his system and he apologises."
