Man, 37, ‘lucky to be alive’ after being bashed on his way to work as cops release CCTV of two suspects
POLICE are on the hunt for two suspects seen in newly released CCTV footage believed to have violently attacked a man on his way to work.
The 37-year-old was lucky to be alive after the "frankly obscene" level of violence inflicted on him in the early hours of Sunday 4th April in Skelmersdale, Liverpool.
Emergency services were called to the area at around 7.30am on Easter Sunday.
Investigators believe the man was attacked by thugs asking him for money as he was on his way to work.
It's thought he managed to stagger a third of a mile away from where he was originally attacked before he was found.
The victim suffered multiple fractures and severe swelling as he was rushed to Aintree Hospital in a serious condition. He has since been recovering at home.
Police revealed a photo of the victim with his horrific injuries in a bid to persuade members of the public to come forward with information.
A 17-year-old and a 19-year-old from Skelmersdale have been arrested in connection with the assault but remain on bail pending further enquiries.
Police now want to speak to two people who could help with the inquiry as the investigation continues.
One person on a bike that's pictured by a nearby Co-Op bank at around 5am, and other person wearing a bobble hat near the same Co-Op bank around 6am.
Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “This was an utterly appalling attack which left a man with shocking injuries.“We want to speak to these two people and I would make a direct appeal to them today – if this was you, please come forward with information.
"We need to speak to you as soon as possible and believe you were in the area some time between 4am and 6am."
