  • Authorities closed the road so the tanker could be emptied and recoveredA river in Wales turned completely white after a milk tanker overturned and spilled its contents into the water.

The dairy-filled lorry crashed off the A482 in Carmarthenshire and ended up in the River Dulais yesterday evening.

As footage shows the tanker then started to leak gallons of milk into the river, dramatically changing its colour. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said an 'unknown quantity' of milk leaked from the tanker on the River Dulais by Llanwrda, which caused 'significant discolouration'.

Officers who attended on Wednesday evening after the crash, returned to the site near Llanwrda in Carmarthenshire, this morning to continue to assess the impact of the spill.

And footage on social media also showed milky white water cascading over a small waterfall.

Passers-by were amazed at the creamy white water cascading over a small waterfall as the milk was swept downstream.

'The tanker was carrying milk and an unknown quantity has escaped and entered the river.

'This has led to significant discoloration along the river and NRW officers have been on site to assess the impact and will continue in the morning.'

On Thursday, traffic monitoring system Inrix said that the road remained closed between the A40 Llandeilo turn off and Bridgend Inn.

It warns motorists: 'Road has been closed since Wednesday afternoon and will remain closed into Thursday morning as the tanker still needs to be emptied and recovered.'
