A shocking video shows the eye-watering moment Ryan Crowley's muscle appears to pop as he lowers weights towards his chest.
The 23-year-old British bodybuilder's career now hangs in the balance as he tries to recover from the surgery performed to repair the damage.
Ryan Crowley, 23, was lifting weights at a gym in Dubai when his pec muscle ripped from the bone and he yelled out in pain before falling to the floor
The bodybuilder, from the UK, (pictured) was being spotted by his trainer, who goes by the name Larry Wheels on social media, when the injury happened
In the short clip, Ryan is spotted by his trainer, who goes by the name Larry Wheels on social media, as he strains while bringing the bar, laden with large weights, towards him.
As he does so his muscle can be seen tearing away from his arm before he lets out a gasp in pain and tries to get out from under the weight as Larry quickly grabs it.
It is not clear how much weight the bodybuilder was attempting to lift when the injury happened. To repair the damage, Ryan had to have surgery at King's College Hospital in Dubai.
His trainer set up a GoFundMe page for Ryan's treatment, which was not covered by his medical insurance.
The appeal gained more than 1,300 donations in less than a week, totalling £27,871 ($38,385), and enabled Ryan to get the best possible treatment.

To repair the damage, Ryan (pictured before the injury) had to have surgery at King's College Hospital in Dubai, something he says he would not have been able to afford without the donations from people on a GoFundMe page
Despite the injury affecting the use of his arm for even every day tasks, Ryan (pictured before the injury) said he is determined to do everything he can to get back to normal and back in the gym
The UK bodybuilder said he would not have been able to get his arm fixed to the 'right standard' without people's donations.
His surgery, which was only meant to take an hour to perform, took four as the doctors had to reconstruct his pec because he had torn the tendon off the bone and the muscle off the tendon.
Ryan has now been discharged and is staying in a hotel as he begins to start his road to recovery.
Speaking after the surgery on social media, Ryan said: 'An incredible thank you so much to everyone who has been involved and supported me in this terrible time, it’s been extremely devastating, painful and very mentally and physically impossible, but I’m keeping as strong and positive as I can.'
He admitted he is still in a lot of pain following the surgery and revealed his whole body has swelled.
But the injury has not cut Ryan's aspirations of pursuing his bodybuilding career short, as he plans to work hard to bring the function of his arm back for every day use and eventually get back in the gym.
