Crime seen! Pranksters are snapped staging an axe murder scene in the street after spotting the Google Maps van

  The bizarre scene was captured in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and shared to Reddit under the caption: 'Quick, the Google car is coming.'

  In the photograph, one man can be seen wielding an axe as his friend lays beneath him, supposedly playing dead on the floor. But social media weren't fooled and quickly took to the comments section to suggest that not all was as it seemed - and that those pictured were posing for the Google car after spotting it.

  Google Maps appeared to capture the moment one man, located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 'attacked' another with an axe in the middle of the street.

  
  

  Taking to Reddit, one baffled person commented: 'What is even going on there?' (pictured)

  'What is even going on there?' asked one, while a second responded: 'Some guys doing landscaping saw a google street mapping car going around the neighbourhood and decided to have some fun.'

  A third commented: 'Just Minecraft Steve harvesting the bodies for some meat.And when a fourth wrote: 'Even with the blur I can tell the guy on the left is laughing his a** off,' another amused by the image joked: 'Or crying because he is next.'

  Others more specifically pointed out the location in which the scenario took place, with one writing: 'This is Fenton ain't it? Never thought I'd see good old Stoke on Reddit.'

  It comes just weeks after a cheeky student who took a selfie with the Google Maps surveillance van five years ago was caught on camera by the van again - in practically the same outfit.  

  Vet Charlie Tewson, 32, from Wokingham, was on his lunch break outside the surgery where he works when he saw the camera van filming the street in July 2015. 

  Running to catch up, he took a funny selfie video with the van - and hilariously he ended up appearing on Google Maps. 

  So five years later, he literally jumped at the chance to appear on the site again, when he saw the camera van on his lunch break in November 2020. 

  He has once again ended up immortalised on the internet - this time outside Waterstones in Wokingham, Berkshire.
