One source told The Sun: 'This is a massive production and a hugely lucrative franchise – but obviously not everyone locally is pleased to see Disney moving in.

'It might generate some jobs, but this is a pretty rural area which has always been quiet and peaceful – the thought of turning it into some sort of intergalactic war zone to make TV shows is horrifying. 'The set is massive, with great big buildings on it alongside loads of heavy duty machinery coming and going - it's just totally out of keeping with the countryside vibe here and people are up in arms about it.'

Ewan confirmed earlier this week that Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes in the first series of The Mandalorian, will be behind the camera as he said: 'She's brilliant, and I'm really looking forward to working with her. It'll just be great to do it again. I did my last one in 2003...

'The idea of doing it again now is more exciting even than it was then. I always felt that there was a story between my [movies] and Alec Guinness's [Obi-Wan].'

The show will follow the titular character's exile on Tatooine watching over Luke Skywalker in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Schindler's List and Taken actor Liam Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn in 1999's Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. When asked if he'd be interested in appearing in flashback's of Disney+ new series, the 68-year-old told Collider on Tuesday: 'Sure, I'd be up for that, yeah.'

In December, Disney made a slew of announcements during its annual Investor's Day presentation, including the bombshell that Hayden Christensen will return as Annakin Skywalker.

Disney Plus had previously announced that Ewan will return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney Plus series, though last year's announcement was the first confirmation that Annakin Skywalker will return.

LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy made the announcement, confirming the show will take place 10 years after the 2005 film Revenge of the Sith.

The show was first announced at the D23 convention in Anaheim 2019, revealing Ewan will be back as Obi-Wan from the Star Wars prequels.

Incredible: Since there is roughly a 30-year gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, there was certainly the possibility of their paths crossing again, which has now been confirmed

Kennedy revealed the show, 'begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, where he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

She teased that Anakin will square off against his former teacher Obi-Wan in what she billed as, 'the rematch of the century.'

While many fans assumed that Obi-Wan and Anakin didn't meet again until he had fully transformed into Darth Vader in the first Star Wars movie, 1977's A New Hope, this show will reveal a battle in between.
