  •  The real reason mosquitoes prefer some human blood over others is surprising
  •  Mozzie expert Dr Cameron Webb has revealed the critters like 'stinky skin'
  •  You're more likely to be bitten by the female bugs if you smell like a bird or cow A mosquito expert has revealed the very unflattering reason some people get bitten by mozzies more than others.

In news that will be unsurprising to some, yet deeply offensive to others, some people are more likely to be bitten because they smell bad.A mosquito expert (pictured) has revealed the very unflattering reason some people get bitten by mozzies more than others

'It's the female mosquito that bites and she needs our blood to deliver the nutrients to develop her eggs,' Mr Webb said.'There are people who are more likely to get bitten by mosquitoes and others, it's not because they have sweet blood, it's probably because they have stinky skin.'When a mosquito is choosing who to bite she's responding to the smell of our skin, and if you smell a bit more like a bird or a cow maybe you're more likely to get bitten by the mosquitoes that prefer those animals.'

Some research has also suggested mosquitoes may prefer O-type blood, reported Healthline.

Female mozzies suck blood to help them supplement their eggs, because mammal blood carries proteins and amino acids.

Both male and female mosquitoes eat plant nectar from plants such as mint, roses, rosemary, sunflowers and poppies and males are strictly vegetarian.
