Mr Joiner and Mr Faust told Daily Mail Australia the escapee informed them he had 'been here four days and I've been living on snails'. Voskresensky had allegedly been hiding out in the scrublands - known in Darwin as 'crocodile heaven' because of the murky water and poor light - after cutting off his electronic bracelet while awaiting trial on four separate charges.

He has since been hit with additional charges of breaching bail and aggravated assault after allegedly attacking someone while on the run from the law.

He faced court on Tuesday where he was remanded in custody.Voskresensky did not appear at his first mention in court as he was in hospital being treated for exposure and a series of bites to his feet.

Mr Joiner and Mr Faust said they only heard the lucky man's desperate cries when they stopped to drop their crab pots nearby.

'We heard him screaming for help real loud: "help!" And that he wanted water,' Joiner said.

'When we got close we could see he was covered in mud and bites and his feet were swollen.'

Giant saltwater crocs are known to breed and lay eggs in the waterways around East Point.

'There would have been crocs in there, for sure,' Joiner said.

'We didn’t understand why he had no clothes on. We tried to talk to him but he wasn’t making much sense. He was talking gibberish really.

'My mate [Cam] had to give him his shorts. He'd done his dash and he was ready to give up.'
